How Social Networking Sites like Twitter and Facebook Affect Your Website’s SEO

SEO CogThere are loads of places that you can get help and advice from when it comes to SEO and improving the promotion of your website.  Whatever website niche you are targeting it makes sense that you try to do what you can in order to promote it as much possible.  The success of your business is only as strong as the traffic you are receiving and if people don’t know that your website exists and they can’t easily find you, then your chances of having a successful website are low.

Whatever methods of SEO you look up you will find that most of them concentrate their efforts on search engines such as Google; after all it is search engine optimisation and improving search engine rankings.  This is fantastic but when you consider that people on average spend more time on Facebook than they do on Google are we really targeting the right marketing area?

Using Social Networking to Our Advantage

When it comes to social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook it is easy to dismiss them as websites that are simply used by people to speak to friends and play games online.  However what you need to bear in mind is that search engine rankings on both Google and Bing are influenced by social networking websites, so if you aren’t involved in this area of the online world then you need to change that now.

We know that your SEO and your search engine successes are gauged on a number of aspects although backlinks and backlinking is a massive aspect of this.  Social networking is all about sharing what people like and it encourages people to tell others when they see something that impresses them.  This means that if you can build social networking into your website and business module you have a great chance of website success.  Letting people easily share your website amongst their social networking friends and follows helps you in two ways.

How Can It Help?

Firstly if they share your link with their friends then really there is no limit to the number of people who can see and have access to this.  This is a quick and easy way to get more people to see your website products and services and hopefully turn them into sales.

Of course you then have the fact that each of these shares creates a backlink.  Although one backlink may not make a different to your SEO rankings, every little helps and you never know how much it can build up in order to make a difference when it comes to your search engine ranking results.

As a website who wants to be successful it is vital that you explore every method when it comes to deciding how to promote yourself and market your business.  SEO is a massive part of this but that doesn’t mean you should disregard other methods such as social networking because it is possible for them to work in harmony together – giving you even more chance of being a success.  To find out how many links you (and your competition) already have on Twitter you can use the Pingler Twitter Links Finder tool.

Social media is certainly not going away any time soon. If anything, it will be increasing as more businesses realize the need to participate with the social/web community.
