{"id":523,"date":"2012-01-13T09:00:58","date_gmt":"2012-01-13T09:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pingler.com\/blog\/?p=523"},"modified":"2014-08-19T17:05:43","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T17:05:43","slug":"are-meta-tags-important-anymore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pingler.com\/blog\/are-meta-tags-important-anymore\/","title":{"rendered":"Are Meta Tags Important Anymore?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5767\" src=\"https:\/\/pingler.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/4424841_s-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Meta Tags\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pingler.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/4424841_s-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pingler.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/4424841_s.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>If you are new to SEO you may have heard numerous things about meta tags and their importance.\u00a0 Hopefully today we will be able to shed some light on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are Meta Tags?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meta tags are basically tags that are contained within the &lt;head&gt; section of a HTML document.\u00a0 In the past they were used by search engines to determine what a page was about; in particular website owners would include their keywords in the keyword meta tag of a page in order to rank for their specific keywords in the search engines.\u00a0 However, this led to a lot of people spamming the meta tag area and in the end, the amount of authority given to them by the search engines diminished to almost nothing.\u00a0 There are a variety of different meta tags that can be employed although most will not do a lot for an SEO strategy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are Meta Tags Important?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although a lot of weight used to be given to meta tags by the search engines, on the whole they are now unimportant elements of a website.\u00a0 Instead of using meta tags to determine what a webpage is about, the search engines now focus on other tags and the content of a webpage (their intelligence has greatly increased over the years).\u00a0 The keyword meta tag in particular is not used at all by the search engines in determining a web page\u2019s authority.<\/p>\n<p>That said, some of the other meta tags can still be useful to an extent.\u00a0 These include the \u201ctitle\u201d and \u201cdescription\u201d tags.\u00a0 The name and description entered into the meta tags is what appears in the search engines \u2013 this is the first thing a user will see when they see a list of possible web pages to click on.\u00a0 If your name and description meta tags are coherent and well written, you may see an increased click through rate.\u00a0 It\u2019s also a good idea to include your keywords in the title and description tags \u2013 just don\u2019t spam.\u00a0 Although it probably won\u2019t help your SEO strategy it won\u2019t hurt it either.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I Input Meta Tags?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As said above meta tags are inputted using HTML to the &lt;head&gt; section of your page.\u00a0 HTML isn\u2019t that hard to learn and there are a variety of sites online that will teach you the basics if you\u2019re willing to put the time and effort in.\u00a0 However, we know how tedious this can be which is why we have our own <a href=\"http:\/\/pingler.com\/seo-tools\/meta-tag-generator\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Meta Tag Generator Tool<\/a> that does all the hard work for you.\u00a0 All you need to do is input your information and our tool will generate the HTML code for you.\u00a0 Then all you need to do is copy and paste it into the &lt;head&gt; of your webpage.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst meta tags are not given anywhere near as much authority by Google as they were in the past, it won\u2019t harm your SEO strategy to still use them.\u00a0 Just make sure that you don\u2019t purposely spam them with irrelevant keywords.\u00a0 They may still have a little bit of life left in them (especially in the other search engines) so it\u2019s worth a try.<\/p>\n<p><i><html><br \/>\n\t<head><br \/>\n\t\t<title><\/title><br \/>\n\t<\/head><br \/>\n\t<body><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pingler.com\/account\/register\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pingler.com\/affiliates\/banners\/Pingler-468x60-01A.gif\" style=\"width: 468px; height: 60px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t<\/body><br \/>\n<\/html><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are new to SEO you may have heard numerous things about meta tags and their importance.\u00a0 Hopefully today we will be able to shed some light on the matter.
